For almost 350 years, Goat Island, about six-tenths of a mile long in a north–south direction and now attached to the rest of the city by a causeway, has been utilized in just about every way imaginable—from fort to hotel, torpedo station to marina, barracks to condominiums. The lighthouse and its keepers have played no small role in the island’s historical pageant.</p> </div></div></div> <div class="field field-name-field-photo field-type-image field-label-hidden"> <img typeof="foaf:Image" src="https://uslhs.org/sites/default/files/article_images/newport_harbor.jpg" width="136" height="97" alt="" /> </div> <h3 class="field-label"> File </h3> <div class="field field-name-field-file field-type-file field-label-above"> <span class="file"><img class="file-icon" alt="PDF icon" title="application/pdf" src="/modules/file/icons/application-pdf.png" /> <a href="https://uslhs.org/sites/default/files/articles_pdf/Newport%20Harbor%20Light%20Station%2C%20Rhode%20Island%20-%20Keepers%20Log%20-%20Spring%202016.pdf" type="application/pdf; length=775253">Newport Harbor Light Station, Rhode Island - Keepers Log - Spring 2016.pdf</a></span> </div> <div class="field field-name-field-location field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-hidden"> <a href="/lighthouse-locations/rhode-island" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Rhode Island</a> </div> Thu, 22 Sep 2016 18:24:26 +0000 rich 2187 at https://uslhs.org https://uslhs.org/education/articles/newport_harbor#comments Block Island Southeast Lighthouse https://uslhs.org/education/articles/block-island-southeast-lighthouse <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Block Island is situated twelve miles south of the mainland (Rhode Island) and about fifteen miles northeast of southern tip of Long Island.
