From the 1840s, still in the days of Stephen Pleasonton’s autocratic oversight of the Light-House Establishment, a system of periodic visits by inspecting officers was established. This became a much more formal process when the Light-House Board took over supervision of the Establishment in 1852. Regular and formal inspections continued as a hallmark of the Bureau of Lighthouses from the early days of the 1900s and continued into the Coast Guard era.</p> </div></div></div> <div class="field field-name-field-photo field-type-image field-label-hidden"> <img typeof="foaf:Image" src="https://uslhs.org/sites/default/files/article_images/the_dreaded_inspector1.jpg" width="342" height="397" alt="" /> </div> <h3 class="field-label"> File </h3> <div class="field field-name-field-file field-type-file field-label-above"> <span class="file"><img class="file-icon" alt="PDF icon" title="application/pdf" src="/modules/file/icons/application-pdf.png" /> <a href="https://uslhs.org/sites/default/files/articles_pdf/Keepers_log_fall_2013-cover_story_the_dreaded_inspector.pdf" type="application/pdf; length=1190632">Keepers_log_fall_2013-cover_story_the_dreaded_inspector.pdf</a></span> </div> <div class="field field-name-field-location field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-hidden"> <a href="/lighthouse-locations/human-interest" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">Human Interest</a> </div> Mon, 26 Oct 2015 18:14:05 +0000 rich 2122 at https://uslhs.org https://uslhs.org/education/articles/dreaded-inspector#comments Pages from the Past https://uslhs.org/education/articles/pages-past <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Transcript of a talk given by Edward Aubry Brooks to a First Baptist Church men's class about 1940, in the Everett, Washington area.
